NDIS: EARLY CHILDHOOD APPROACH
The early childhood approach is how the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) support children younger than 9 and their families. The early childhood approach helps children younger than 6 with developmental delay or children younger than 9 with disability and their families to access the right support when they need it.
Early Childhood Approach, what is is?
The early childhood approach is here to help children under six with developmental delays, or children under nine with disabilities, and their families, by connecting them with the right support at the right time.

If you have concerns about your child’s development and they are under six, they can access support without needing a formal diagnosis. This flexible approach is based on the latest evidence-based research and was developed with leading experts in early childhood intervention.

Our approach supports best practices in early childhood intervention by focusing on building each child’s and family’s capacity. This promotes greater inclusion in everyday community settings, giving every child opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive. It’s all about giving children and families the support they need to start life on the best possible path.

The early years are vital as they shape a child’s learning and development for the future. That’s why our approach is both family-centred and strengths-based, recognising that parents and carers know their child best. Families are at the heart of all our services and supports.

The intervention services are designed to fit naturally into your family’s daily life and routines.

Guided by the Early Childhood Approach, our approach is
Evidence-based
In line with evidence-based best practice, the Early Childhood Approach (ECA) offers a gentle introduction to support services. It emphasises family-centred care, delivered in a child’s natural environments, such as at home, in early childhood services, or in playgroups. This approach ensures that support is integrated into everyday routines, promoting positive outcomes for both children and families.
Collaborative
we prioritise building strong relationships with you and your child to understand your unique needs and provide exceptional service. We recognise that you are the expert on your child, and we collaborate closely with you to develop tailored strategies that support both your child and your family.
Goal-oriented
We believe in collaborating with the entire family to assess each child's unique needs and work towards their goals together. We prioritise what parents envision for their child and family, ensuring that we align our efforts to achieve the best possible outcomes. By fostering a close partnership with families, we create a supportive environment that enhances your child’s development and wellbeing.
Play-based
Our play-based approach is designed specifically for children and families. Play serves as an essential tool for play therapists, providing valuable insights into a child’s while working towards their individual goals. Through engaging toys and games, a therapist can capture a child's attention and practice targeted motor and functional skills. This approach also promotes sensory processing and perceptual skills, as well as supporting cognitive and language development. By focusing on play, we create a supportive and enjoyable environment that encourages growth and learning.
